These hornbeams are twentieth century vessels carved out of a hollowed log. Named after the hardwood trees that they were typically made from, hornbeams were most often used in the home for the storage of loose grains and dry goods. Today, these hornbeams can be hornbeams can be used for their initial function as storage or repurposed as decoration. As these are vintage wooden pieces that were once-functional items, some items may show varying degrees of use and natural deterioration. While we believe the wear contributes to the uniqueness and character of each piece, the Nomadic Trading team will work to provide the best options available.
Please note that the hornbeams shown in this listing are intended as a display of selection. Because they are one-of-a-kind pieces, the vessels we have in store come in a range of styles and sizes. Medium hornbeams can range from 4.5-7” in mouth width, 8.5-13” in height, ¼ - 1.5” in wood thickness, and up to 5 pounds in weight. These sizing guidelines are loose, as each is priced by a combination of these factors, or by their overall condition, intricacy and age.
