These items are vintage wooden butter churns from Turkey. Made originally for preparing butter for the family, these pieces can be used decoratively today due to their eye-catching nature and rustic appeal.

In store, we have a variety of styles of churns available. Some churns are made from hornbeams and hollowed logs, and some have a more traditional look with long slats and metal support loops. As these churns were once functional goods, each has varying degrees of softening that comes with decades of use. Additionally, their vintage nature entails a level of natural deterioration and wear that often resulted in cracking, splitting or splintering—some pieces have been visibly repaired with hammered copper, tin, staples and splints so that they could still be used in the home. While we believe these cosmetic additions and signs of natural aging contribute to the uniqueness and character of each churn, the Nomadic Trading team will work to provide the best options available according to your desired look.

Large churns are roughly 5.75-7” in mouth diameter, 33-44” in height, and around or up to 30 pounds in weight.
