PL8263 ANTIQUE 1920s TURKISH AYDIN TEXTILE 1'6" X 4'
1920s SADDLE BAG FROM AYDIN REGION, TURKEY
This kilim is an antique saddle bag from Turkey. Kilim weaving is a centuries-old technique that makes for flatweave, no-pile pieces that are both aesthetically appealing and functional. Traditionally produced in countries of the former Persian Empire, kilims are the basis of many different styles born from the region. Woven in the 1920s this particular piece is from the Aydin region of Western Turkey. Expertly hand woven by the tribal and nomadic groups of the area, this piece is stunning in its craftsmanship, design and condition. While this kilim was originally used as a saddle bag, today it can function as a small rug, wall hanging or pillow case. Please note the structural design of this piece is related to its function–the saddle bag would be draped across the saddle of an animal, with hanging pouches on either side. The middle of this piece has a long horizontal slit to allow the saddle bag to fall evenly and stay in position while in use.
Because of the size of our inventory, we are unable to keep rugs open and on display in store. Please note that slight shadows or differences in color may be shown in photographs due to how rugs are folded for storage. Any creases will surely fall out once the rug has been brushed and left open for a bit of time. We apologize for any inconsistency in appearance online.
As this is a vintage, hand-woven rug, there may be some signs of age and use. Though we believe this wear only contributes to the character and uniqueness of each piece, the Nomadic Trading team will work to repair items when necessary. For more information regarding purchase of this rug and similar pieces, please reach out at sales.nomadic@gmail.com.
