1970s KARA KOYUNLU TRIBAL STORAGE BAG KILIM FROM MERSIN REGION, TURKEY
This 1970s textile is a vintage kilim from the Mersin region of Turkey. Kilim weaving is a centuries-old technique that makes for flatweave, no-pile pieces that are both aesthetically appealing and functional. Traditionally produced in countries of the former Persian Empire, kilims are the basis of many different styles born from the region. This piece in particular was originally woven by the Turkman nomadic tribe Kara Koyunlu to function as a storage bag for use during relocation. As this piece is fully intact in its original form, it can be used multifunctionally today. For example, Kara Koyunlu bags make for very interesting large pillow cases, decorative wall-hangings or rugs.
Because of the size of our inventory, we are unable to keep rugs open and on display in store. Please note that slight shadows or differences in color may be shown in photographs due to how rugs are folded for storage. Any creases will surely fall out once the rug has been brushed and left open for a bit of time. We apologize for any inconsistency in appearance online.
As this is a vintage, hand-woven textile, there may be some signs of age and use. Though we believe this wear only contributes to the character and uniqueness of each piece, the Nomadic Trading team will work to repair items when necessary. For more information regarding purchase of this rug and similar pieces, please reach out at sales.nomadic@gmail.com.
