CR8268 ANTIQUE TURKOMAN TEKKE ASMALIK RUG 2'7" X 3'11"
ANTIQUE ASMALIK FROM TEKKE TRIBE OF TURKMENISTAN
This small antique rug is a traditional tribal piece from Turkmenistan. Expertly hand-knotted and true to traditional Tekke design style with its ornate geometric motifs and vivid maroon color, this intricate piece is simply gorgeous. This rug is extra special due to its origin as an asmalik; woven in pairs, asmaliks were traditionally used to adorn the flanks of camels during a ceremony or bridal procession. After such an occasion, asmaliks would function as floor coverings so as to get multiple uses out of the beautiful pieces. Thus, this particular piece is not only one of expert craftsmanship, but rich cultural significance as well.
Because of the size of our inventory, we are unable to keep rugs open and on display in store. Please note that slight shadows or differences in color may be shown in photographs due to how rugs are folded for storage. Any creases will surely fall out once the rug has been brushed and left open for a bit of time. We apologize for any inconsistency in appearance online.
As this is an antique, hand-woven rug, there may be some signs of age and use. Though we believe this wear only contributes to the character and uniqueness of each piece, the Nomadic Trading team will work to repair items when necessary. For more information regarding purchase of this rug and similar pieces, please reach out at sales.nomadic@gmail.com.
