These handcrafted and carved mortars are vintage pieces from Turkey. A must-have in the home, these mortars were used for the grinding of raw grains, herbs and spices into a fine powder or paste. While their vintage wooden nature entails that they serve mostly a decorative purpose today, they are highly unique pieces that can be used as planters, a catchall for keys and trinkets, or as holders for incense and kitchen utensils. The decorative function of these mortars can vary depending on their size, but their rustic charm remains steadfast!

Because they are one-of-a-kind pieces, the mortars we have in store come in a range of styles and sizes. Extra large mortars can range from 4.5-10” in mouth width, 9.5-14” in height,  ½-2” in wood thickness, and around 17 pounds in weight. These sizing guidelines are loose, as each mortar is priced by a combination of these factors, or by their overall condition, intricacy and age.
