1940s SIVAS MULTIPLE PRAYER RUG FROM TURKEY
This rug is a vintage kilim piece from Turkey. Kilim weaving is a centuries-old technique that makes for flatweave, no-pile pieces that are both aesthetically appealing and functional. Traditionally handmade in countries of the former Persian Empire, kilims are the basis of many different styles born from the region. This piece in particular is woven in the style distinct to Sivas, Turkey with its bold colors and geometric designs. However, this rug's original nature as a saf, or multiple prayer rug makes it especially unique. Safs were commonly gifted to mosques, frequently enough that the rugs would have to be stacked on top of one another to save space. Older safs in such excellent condition as this one were often one of those pieces that remained in a pile of dozens for many years.
Because of the size of our inventory, we are unable to keep rugs open and on display in store. Please note that slight shadows or differences in color may be shown in photographs due to how rugs are folded for storage. Any creases will surely fall out once the rug has been brushed and left open for a bit of time. We apologize for any inconsistency in appearance online.
As this is a vintage, hand-woven rug, there may be some signs of age and use. Though we believe this wear only contributes to the character and uniqueness of each piece, the Nomadic Trading team will work to repair items when necessary.
