These are Turkish mortars. They were originally used to grind household spices and grains. They vary in height from 7" up to 14", and have an average weight of about 4 lbs. Intended for everyday use, these mortars were commonplace Central Anatolian abodes. They now can serve many design functions. Whether it's repurposed as an accent piece for shelving or as a pencil holder, these hand-carved pieces of history tie together every project.
