ABOUT US
.
I’ve been in the Carpet & Kilim Industry since the early 1990’s. I learned the business from my brother, Cem Williford who in the early eighties use to own a store in a little fishing village on the Southern Western coast of Turkey known as Marmaris. By 1990 Marmaris became very touristic so my brother decided to move back to the states, hoping to introduce his collection here. We opened our first store in Chapel Hill, North Carolina called “Silk Road”. My brother taught me the art of the weave and now I hand select each rug based on it’s cultural significance.
For thousand of years women hand wove each knot to tell stories from their lives to pass on to generations to follow. Once the wool is selected it's carefully divided based on how absorbent the wool is. The wool is then spun using a simple tool called the drop spindle. The wool is now ready for the dying process. Natural dyes from flowers, roots, and fruit are used to create vibrant hues.
In our business we would like to preserve the art of the rug and to keep their stories alive.
Please feel free to contact us, we are always so excited to hear from you!
Thanks,
Demir Williford
