Demir Williford learned the business from his brother Cem Williford, who in the early eighties owned a store in a fishing village in the South of Turkey known as Marmaris. By 1990 Demir and Cem opened their first store in Chapel Hill, North Carolina called “Silk Road.” After that venture Nomadic Trading Company was born.
For thousands of years women hand wove each knot to tell stories from their lives to pass on to generations to follow. Once the wool is selected it's carefully divided based on how absorbent the wool is. The wool is then spun using a simple tool called the drop spindle. Natural dyes from flowers, roots, and fruit are used to create vibrant hues.
In our business we preserve the art of the rug and keep their stories alive. Each rug is hand selected before being presented to you. Please feel free to contact us, we are always so excited to hear from you!
